Smurf Village

Little man has become interested in Smurfs this summer and I had a minute of inspiration to make him a Smurf Village. To make this you will need.

White gift boxes (like the ones you give clothing in at Christmas.

Fabric scraps

Markers

Glue gun

Scissors

Small clamps

Cotton stuffing

To create the base you will need a piece of scrap wood and some paint.

Start by cutting the edges from one of the boxes so that you have a flat surface. Then fold the box in half and cut along the fold so that you have 2 rectangles.

Next roll one rectangle into a circle and use the clamps to hold it in place while you glue the ends together with hot glue. This should great the bottom half of the smurf house.

Place the tube on another box lid and trace around it to make the base for the top of

the house.

Cut out the circle and place it on the fabric.

Cut an oval out of the fabric a few inches larger than the base.

Using the glue gun place a small amount of the glue around the base, and gather the fabric around the base to create the top of the mushroom. Only glue 3/4 of the way around leaving an opening large enough to add stuffing.

Add stuffing a little stuffing on the top and test it by placing it on the bottom half of the house to see if it looks right. There is no right or wrong way to do this it is all about how you want it to look.

Doors and Windows:

To create doors and windows in the houses I used the Smurf figurines to measure how large to make the door then cut out the door from the house. Next I used markers to create a wood frame around the door. Using markers I drew windows on each side of the house.

Attaching the roof.

The easiest way to attached the roof is to place the top fabric side down on a table and center the bottom half on top. Then use your hot glue to glue between the top and the bottom half. Apply pressure to the house until the glue dries. Using the box side you removed earlier fold them into a square tube and glue the ends together to make the chimney. Then use paint or markers to make the chimney match the house.

Village Base

To showcase the houses and create a great play area I used a small piece of scrap wood to create the grounds of the village. To do this we sketched out where the road would be then used paint to create a path and grass for the houses to sit on. Little man added flower stickers too!

Here is the completed project. This took about 3 hours to complete.
